Day 8 Project Kitchen Reface

So I did skip a day of work that was done....our Counter tops and sink got put it...I'll take some good pictures ASAP!

Yesterday Andrew, Dustin and myself got to work on the back splash. Originally we wanted something, semi-simple and modern. It would have looked something like this
Then we went to my old work, and one of my favorite old co-workers, who is the company designer saw our kitchen and persuaded us to do something a little more challenging, traditional, and of course most costly. But I'm happy to get away from the modern look, and love what we have created so far!

Here is our before. The night before we went through all of our supplies and made sure we have everything we need, unwrapped and started to trim them down.

These are the pencil dome pieces that will separate the 2x2 and 1x1 pieces. We used that adhesive which was recommended instead of straight mortar that we would have to mix our self.

Here are the pieces we selected. I'm not a huge natural rock fan, I think working with that company ad seeing the problems that could come from them made me not like it. But since the pieces are small I was willing to deal. We did run into the problem several times of the pieces cracking or breaking, and we would have to through that piece away.

 Here's our hypothetical lay out.

And here it it up! The pencils are only going on the ends. This one corner took us like 2 hours! it's all the little cuts to make the pencils fit right and the tiles to be cut down.

Once we got rolling, the rest of the back didn't take long, until the next corner!

About 8 hours later, with a lunch break, and an electrician visit, we got this!

And the cabinet doors back up!

Here's our before...prior to the grout getting put on!!! It's such a HUGE difference already! I can't be happier!!! And I'm super happy that we got to do a huge part of our kitchen! It feels so good to be able to say I did that!

Protection Under the Kitchen Sink

SUPER Easy DIY!

When they redid our cabinets, under the sink was nasty! I feel like it always gets nasty down there from a leak or something! So our cabinet guy replaced the wood for me. But I didn't want it to stay wood since it would get damaged again. So I went to Home Depot and we bought this laminent fake tile things, $0.69 each! So it was a steal and easy fix. They had fancier designs that cost more, but this is just for purpose not for looks, even though i think it looks good too!!

Here's my undersink before. I get my sink in tomorrow and garbage disposal, so I thought I would take advantage of the open top while I had it!

Lay them out and measure them.

I needed a few trims, so I got house hold scissors and they cut them out great!

Here's my end result! Functional and looks good!
This project honestly took me like 15 minutes! We probably took more time picking out which ones we would buy then applying them.

TIP: The glue is real sticky, so know where you are putting it and place it fast. You can't replace it one it's down.

Day 6 Project Kitchen Reface

YIPPPEEE!! The cabinets are complete....onto the countertops and appliances!

Here's the completed pictures. I also had him finish off the back wall, which we will be applying the backsplash ourself!! so excited!!

Here's the buffet...will be adding a glass to the top of it

Land of the Lost Socks AKA Laundry Room

I've wanted to put lots of quotes up on my wall..just haven't been able to commit to the phrases I want. So....I started today with the Laundry Room. We went through ons of phrases, but this is one we always went back to!

Thank god for my cricut....vinyl you can apply and if you don't like it, it's easy to remove without any damage to your walls!!! I also FINALLY got to use my 12x24'' cutting mat! I have struggled to find a use for it.

So first i cut out my letters...we LOVE the hello kitty font, it isn't super feminine and it looks great! So cut out my phrase...
Here's my empty untouched laundry room wall.

My phrase laid out and trying to figure out how i want to lay it out on the wall.

My first line, Andrew had to help me to make sure it was level...but i didn't like the location...

So i centered it on the complete wall instead of the open area.
 Words up
Took of the lining and help

And the Finished product! I LOVE IT! Hopefully we can start finding our lost sock partners!

(FYI i staples the ribbon to the wall so it won't fall down. Easy to do with a staple gun, then I covered the staples with the ribbons! Thinking about getting baby socks to cover them to keep with the theme. Probably will add a swirl of some sort on top also)

Day 4 Project Kitchen Reface

SUPER LOTS of Progress! You can actually see what it will look like!!

Day 3 Project Kitchen Reface!

We have made it to day three....or DUSTY Day! He made lots and lots of dust from sanding down and removing some of the layers of our cabinets. Here is what we look like today!

The breakfast island has been sealed on one side...getting ready for people to sit there for the island!

Buffet sanded down

The corner....loving my lazy susan..and spice rack!

this is the otherside of the breakfast island...there was a shelf in it, but i didn't want it and he wasn't contracted to take it out...so andrew and I did! Now we have a place for our roll out trash can bins!

Susan corner...and new base for under the sink, it was gross, he did it because he was nice, not contracted to do =)

with the new boxes and old ones, all sanded down. ALSO if you look at the top of the older (darker) ones, there is a light piece of wood on the top lip. We are getting crown molding along the edge, and the cabinets were slightly tall, doesn't change how much space I get inside, but makes the outside prettier =)

The fridge/pantry/desk view.

Desk...sanded down, still stained, the family before us did a great job at messing up this stuff!

so that's day three...i came home sneezing, but can't wait for it to be done! Hopefully by Monday!

Our countertops got measured today also and should be put in next week! I want to do something in the kitchen, so I get to start shopping soon for our back splash! so many ideas...which is the best though.....maybe post pictures of the ideas, if I can find them!!!

WHOOO HOOO...we are almost done with cabinets!
